A tea caddy or a
tea canister is a jar or a box or any other receptacle utilized for storing
tea. The word “caddy” was derived from “catty” which was the Chinese pound,
measuring a little more than the English pound.
Tea caddies or
canisters are beautiful containers made of ceramic or porcelain. Most caddies
are wonderfully painted in bright and attractive colours. In earlier days, when
caddies were mostly called canister,
they used to come mostly in the colour combination of white and blue.
Today, in the
online shops selling ethnic tea wares, you can find special and unique red
porcelain Chinese tea canisters. Some of these are vividly painted with the
traditional peony which is the national flower of China symbolizing prosperity.
These porcelain canisters are absolutely airtight due to the presence of
superior, quality aluminium seal ring, present beneath the lid.
Online shops have
beautiful tea caddies with vividly painted plum and magpie on the base colour
of white. Made of porcelain, these have tight plastic seal rings of the best
quality inside the lid making sure of complete air-tightness of these
containers.
